"Heard"
Something about
Feeling heard
Makes the soul sing
Makes us feel
Like we matter
In the world.
Softly closing the door on a long day
She greets me.
“Well?” she asks.
I nod
And feel my eyes shine.
“I felt heard today,” I say.
Writing. Literacy. Music.
A trifecta.
She smiles.
Crawling into bed late,
I thank the cloud
the one that’s been holding me.
Sleep now needed,
my smiling soul
drifts off.
to sleep.

What a beautiful poem. Indeed, “something about feeling heard makes the soul sing”…I will think about this poem for a while

Your poem rings of truth. For me, one of the amazing things about the SOL challenge is that I have felt heard, rather than judged, for my thoughts. The community is wonderfully supportive!

Your poem gave me a smile of contentment. How wonderful to look back on a day and notice the moments of being present and having others acknowledge that presence, your contributions, your needs.

This poem is perfection, both in its message and its style/word choice. Sometimes being heard is all we truly need to feel, even if it isn’t as often as we hoped.

How amazing to be heard. I plan on taking this message back to work tomorrow when I greet my 28 students, and I will do my best to make sure “they are all heard”.
